Australia Day 2008 - Congratulations to Sir Jack Brabham - Order of Australia Award
|
Date Added: 26/1/2008
|
Sir Jack was today awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia for services to motor sport as an ambassador, mentor and promoter of safety and to the community through support of charitable organisations.
In the Austalian honours system, appointments to the Order of Australia confer recognition for outstanding achievement and service. In 1966 the famous "Black Jack" Brabham was named Austalian of the Year.
On the Gold Coast, resting at home after a hospital stay for a chest infection, Sir Jack said, "I'm really honoured to have another award. I wasn't expecting any more recognition . . . it really is terrific".
Our best wishes and congratulations to Sir Jack and his family on this wonderful award - well deserved!

David Brabham has raised money for charity over many years
| Autosport International BP Ultimate 102 unleaded Celebrity Kart Challenge |
Racing4charity.com will be organising the BP Ultimate 102 Unleaded Celebrity Kart Challenge at the Autosport International Show in Birmingham's NEC, planned to run during the afternoon of Friday 11th January 2008. After a very successful meeting with all parties concerned we can reveal that we will hold a 1.5 hours (longer than last year) endurance race in the Karting Hall and that the event will start from 1330 with track action from 1400, racing from 1445. A new plan for this year is to allow two public drivers per team, four already booked and paid for, and two places to be granted for competitions, watch out for those.
We have set a figure of £50,000 for us to raise and with three team sponsors already supporting three charities we have £38,000 already! If you would like to sponsor a team and raise money for your or their chosen charity please contact us.
A limited number of public drivers can join the stars for just £300.00, the total amount will be banked and awarded to the winning team's chosen charity. |

Australia's "Auto Action magazine" voted Sir Jack Brabham our greatest motor racing driver.
The global judging panel is made up of motor racing critics, technical experts and drivers, including current Formula One driver, Mark Webber and V8 Supercar icon, Craig Lowndes. From the Editor, Andrew MacLean: "while it is difficult to comprehend even in this day and age, just how tough it would have been for an Australian to compete on the world stage, the fact that Sir Jack won three Formula One World Championships - is one of which with his own team - is simply awesome. And as the father of our greatest motor racing dynasty proves he had some pretty special DNA".
Sir Jack is ranked number one in the Top 100 Australian Drivers' list, which will be published today.
Congratulations Sir Jack Brabham!

We are lucky to have received some very interesting materials from Brian who started attending meetings at Speedways and road racing from 1953. Brian has had an interesting career and was one of only five professional motor racing mechanics in Australia, 1962-63, working on the Lotus 19 (after the crash 19B) and the Tasman Brabham Climax.
Brian worked as a Speedway photographer and has a number of websites where he has displayed facets of vintage speedway and the early days of Aussie Road Racing. He has a vintage midget speedcar and has provided a very rare video of a young Jack Brabham at Mt Druitt, NSW, Australia in 1953. You can view it under “Biography” section and more photos he has provided can be seen at “Your Story”. Links to Brian’s sites are available under our “Links” section at bottom of page.
Many thanks Brian.

AutoSport Award for Sir Jack in London 3 December 2006
Sir Jack Brabham has received a Gregor Grant award at this year's AutoSport Awards in London and said "I had a great career, but I should have been 30 years later. If I was around in Bernie Ecclestone's era I might have made some money out of it".
AutoSport stated Sir Jack was heavily responsible for the switch from front-engine to rear-engine cars in Formula One and he received the award from Carlos Reutemann, a man who drove several Brabahm cars during his career.
The "Gregor Grant Award" was for 25 years of excellence and named after the original journalist who started AutoSport in the early 1950's. AutoSport was first published in 1950 and is often referred to as the "Bible" of motorsport, is published in the UK with worldwide distribution.
